Testers are bottles that fragrance houses make so customers can try a scent in store. They contain the same fragrance, with the same formula and concentration as the retail product. The difference is the packaging, not what is inside.
How a tester differs from the retail box
- Box: usually a plain white or brown box, or no box at all.
- Cap: some testers come without a cap; the product page says so when it applies.
- Bottle: usually the same as retail, sometimes marked "Tester" or "Demonstration".
Why they cost less, and when to choose one
Without the gift packaging, testers usually sell for less than the retail version. They are ideal when you buy for yourself; for a present, choose the retail box or a fragrance gift set. Not sure about a scent yet? Start with a perfume sample.
